\u201cSoprano Kaori Sato is recognized for her superb voice and natural acting ability. Her singing was loud enough to carry the entire orchestra\u2019s playing, yet it was never strained. While still a graduate student, Ms. Sato was on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera covering the role of Gilda in Rigoletto<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She is best known for her Madama Butterfly: <\/em> \u201cSoprano Kaori Sato is a Madama Butterfly to contend with,\u201d wrote the Washington Post <\/em>(October 1997) \u201csinging the demanding role with subtlety and considerable beauty.\u201d Ms. Sato sang the title role of Cio-Cio San for Tacoma Opera, Virginia Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Cleveland Opera, among others. She was also Liu in the Opera Memphis\/Nashville Opera production of Puccini\u2019s Turandot. <\/em>She presented a gala concert at the New Hampshire Music Festival, and was the guest of the Monterey Symphony and Valdosta Symphony for a gala program.<\/p>\n

Other recent operatic engagements include the role of La Contessa in The Marriage of Figaro <\/em>with Opera Memphis, Gilda in Rigoletto <\/em>with theAstra Theatre in Malta and the Fresno International Grand Opera. She was Micaela inCarmen<\/em>and Miranda in The Tempest <\/em>with the Dallas Opera. <\/em>In Manila, the Philippines, she gave a gala concert of selected opera arias and, with both the Sendai Opera in Japan and Opera Asia in New York , sang Santuzza in Mascagni\u2019s Cavalleria<\/em> Rustican<\/em>a.<\/p>\n

Ms. Sato debuted at Carnegie Hall in John Rutter\u2019s Magnificat with Mid-American Productions and was invited back to sing Faure\u2019s Requiem.<\/em> She was Mimi in the concert version of La Boheme<\/em> with the Harrisburg, Fort Wayne, and Walla Walla Symphonies. She sang the Brahms Requiem<\/em> with the Eugene Concert Choir; Verdi\u2019s Requiem<\/em> with D\u2019Angelo Symphony; Mozart\u2019s Concert Arias<\/em> and Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 4 <\/em>with Norwalk Symphony; and Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 9 <\/em>with Youngstown Symphony. With Ensemble Intakt in Japan she presented Mendelssohn\u2019s Three Motets.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Italy she performed Rossini\u2019s Stabat Mater<\/em> and Liu in Turandot <\/em>in association with the Enrico Caruso International Voice Competition (1997). At Lincoln Center she performed Qui la voce sua soave<\/em> from Bellini\u2019s I Puritani<\/em>, after winning First Prize in the 1993 Liederkranz Foundation Annual Scholarship Award Competition. She is also a first prize winner of the Queens Opera competition, a winner of Lici-Albanese Puccini Foundation competition and Japan International Voice Competition.<\/p>\n

Ms.Sato has been on Faculty at SUNY Purchase College since 1998. She has appeared as a guest speaker at the Eastman School of Music, and given master classes in the U.S. and Japan. She has performed a series of \u2018lecture concerts\u2019 in Japan entitled \u201cSong and Talk\u201d, in which she sings art songs and operatic arias, and intersperses them with anecdotes and insights gleaned from her experiences as a student, teacher and professional singer living in New York.<\/p>\n

Kaori Sato received a M.B. Diploma from Miyagi-Gakuin Women\u2019s College in Japan and an M.M. from the Mannes College of Music, where she was awarded the Clarisse B. Kampel Foundation Scholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
